For those looking nostalgically back at the summer camp years of yore, here’s a music festival located within two hours of Asheville that will bring out the kid in you.
Campfest is a three-day music celebration that recreates the magic of childhood summer camp. Held at Camp Blue Ridge, nestled within 250 acres of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Campfest creates a memorable and exhilarating experience by providing outdoor recreation and competitions alongside incredible musical performances.
Camp Blue Ridge is a fully equipped summer camp that allows for all the same activities attendees enjoyed as children as well as fresh and creative ones.
Campers can win points all weekend for doing absolutely anything and be crowned king and queen of Campfest by rock climbing, doing their best zip line scream, running a 5K, having the best kickball costume, competing in relays and obstacles, playing tennis, running in a not-so-5k, challenging a low ropes course, hiking, high diving, and hitting the blob bounce.
Campfest has numerous accommodation options including shared and private cabins and general admission camping in three beautiful locations throughout the camp – beach, mountain and field of dreams. There will also be weekend passes available for guests to attend the event, stay off site and take advantage of the many hotels and other accommodations in the surrounding area.
Cold War Kids and Hey Rosetta! will headline on a lineup including Langhorne Slim, The Whigs, Margo and the Pricetags, Alanna Royale, Roadkill Ghost Choir, Brushfire Stankgrass, Family and Friends, Hardy and the Hard Knocks, City Mouse, Nikki Talley, as well as a carefully crafted array of more national, regional and local acts. In addition to the main stage area, there will also be a beach stage that attendees can enjoy while lounging by a heated pool, as well as pop up and late night performances throughout the camp all weekend long.
A representative from Camp Blue Ridge said, “After seeing the overwhelming success of hosting mud adventure races on site with just local bands, we know the awesome potential we have with a stellar lineup and non-stop camp activities all weekend. We’re excited to be a part of a festival that is the first of its kind in the Southeast – with the mountains as a backdrop to the music and activities, who wouldn’t want to be at Campfest?”
By embracing the summer camp attitude of making new friends, connecting with nature and being exposed to arts and recreation, guests have the opportunity to escape from their daily lives and reconnect with the joy and possibilities of childhood. Campers will be able to relax, compete, interact, and leave re-energized basking in the glow of new friends and memories.
All campers will have the option to buy into a camp meal plan that will provide four meals throughout the weekend.
If You Go: Sorry, but Campfest has been postponed for 2015!
