Flying on the trapeze isn’t just for those performing in a circus anymore. Women like Christine Aiken and Dari Layne are bringing flying trapeze to the public in Western North Carolina. Now that autumn is here, visitors and residents alike can enjoy the gorgeous colors and crisp air while soaring through the air.
“Fall is a special time for flying trapeze, as we have moved past the heat and folks are still wanting to be outside and enjoy our beautiful color. What better time to try something new or challenge yourself to an adventure you probably never thought you’d have the opportunity to do!” states Aiken.
The company is also giving the back to the community by offering armed forces, veterans, police, firefighters, emergency responders and their families to fly for half off through the end of November. “We just fly on a trapeze, but these ladies and gentlemen are the brave ones. They have far more heart and courage than I could ever dream to have. Keeping us safe is what they do, and now we can return the favor while they swing on the trapeze.” Aiken says. “We are grateful for their service to their country and community. Their sacrifices warrant far more than we could ever repay, but we want to do what we can to show our gratitude and bring joy.”
No experience is necessary, but flyers are required to be ages 4 and up, as well as 250 lbs or less. Participants are given full instruction and can watch a demonstration before beginning their experience. Flyers are coached by experienced staff on a basic trick. Flyers are in safety lines for their entire experience off the ground, so they can relax and have a good time.
Some folks consider taking the swing a full experience, while others are trained to fly across to a professional catcher. “The momentum and timing of our instructions allow us to guide beginners through executing a successful trick their very first time. It is very rewarding to be a part of!” Aiken shares.
