HENDERSONVILLE FILM SOCIETY: November 2016 Movie Schedule – Our final month of movies for 2016 starts off with a Depression era fantasy about politics. Next is a movie about collecting mountain songs that was shot in Western NC. Week #3 features a film adaptation of a long running musical while Bob Hope and Jane Russell close out the year by reprising one of his biggest hits.
November 6th: Gabriel Over the White House – This unusual fantasy, made at the height of the Depression, tells the story of a crooked politician (Walter Huston) who, through divine intervention, reforms and solves America’s problems. The film co-stars Karen Morley and Franchot Tone.

November 13th: Songcatcher – Shot right here in Western North Carolina and set at the start of the 20th century, Songcatcher details the efforts of a Northern scholar to record and preserve the music and ballads of Appalachian mountain folk. Janet McTeer, Aidan Quinn, and Pat Carroll are the featured performers.

November 20th: A Chorus Line – This film adaptation of one of the longest running Broadway musicals opens things up as it tells the story of several hopefuls trying to land parts in a big Broadway musical. Michael Douglas stars as the tyrannical director. The film also stars Alyson Reed and Terrence Mann.

November 27th: Son of Paleface – Bob Hope’s sequel to his earlier success The Paleface reunites him with Jane Russell and adds Roy Rogers & Trigger to the mix. Loaded with visual gags, the film is often referred to as a live action cartoon. A fun way to end a very successful year for HFS.
