In 2001, The 48 Hour Film Project started as a local film challenge
among friends. Since then, it has evolved into a global phenomenon
and the world’s largest filmmaking competition.
In 2016, The 48 Hour Film Project will tour more than 130 cities,
challenging more than 60,000 people to complete an entire film from
writing and casting to filming and editing in a mere 48 hours! In all,
more than 4,000 films will be created as part of the 2016 competition.
The challenge will take over the streets of ASHEVILLE from JUNE 17-19,
2016 and there are several ways for you to cover this extraordinary
competition.
COVERAGE OPPORTUNITIES
Pre-Competition Coverage – Arrange interview with local producers,
competitors, and co-founders Arrange an interview with the ASHEVILLE
Producer, Bruce Sales, and past participants, who can describe the
experience and challenge of creating a film in 48 hours, or with the
co-founders of the 48 Hour Film Project, Mark Ruppert and Liz Langston
Follow a team in your Asheville to see the excitement, frustration, and
creative process first-hand If you’d like to cover this angle for the 48
Hour Film Project, we can set you up with a team to follow and interview
(see below for details about where and when the teams are meeting to
kick-off the competition). We can provide photos or videos for your coverage or you can send a photographer/crew to capture the moments

public film screenings Interview teams that competed who can share their
experience of creating a film in just 48 hours Tell your audience how
they can watch the films and meet the filmmakers at your local public

will also be choosing Asheville’s best films at the screening.

MISSION/HOW THE COMPETITION WORKS
On June 17, participating teams will gather at Asheville Brewing Company
(Coxe Ave.), where they will be given a genre, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue they must work into their film. Films submitted even 1-minute late on June 19 will be disqualified. This year, Asheville will be one of a record 130 cities worldwide – from
