“Do You Know Me — Maybe all we can see is the shadow of what may be” is an exhibition of monoprints, photography, sculpture, and collage by Linda and Adam Larsen. Have you ever asked the question, “Can we truly know another?” Even with relationships as close as mothers and sons, much can remain hidden. Collaborating on this visual project – exploring mediums beyond comfort zones – Linda & her son Adam have definitely added to the known, but it has also served up more questions.
50% of sales from the monoprint portrait series will be donated to support the efforts of the Innocence Project’s whose mission is to free the staggering number of innocent people who remain incarcerated, and to bring reform to the system responsible for their unjust imprisonment (www.innocenceproject.org).
Linda Larsen, living and working in Asheville, NC, is primarily a painter fixated on the human figure and how it moves/struggles from within its own interior space out into the external world. Political and social justice issues intertwine and pin her work in both history and the culture of now.
Adam Larsen has designed video projections for over 200 productions in theatre, dance, symphony and opera. Projects have ranged from intimate to extravagant and have appeared both on Broadway and in many of the major venues across the world. In addition, Adam has directed two feature length documentaries about disability. His first, Neurotypical, about autism from the perspective of autistics, premiered on the PBS series P.O.V and his second, Undersung, about caregivers of severely disabled family members, is available on Amazon.
At the reception, there will be poetry / spoken word by artist, poet, teacher, and activist “B-Love” Dewayne Barton, co-founder of the Burton Street Community Peace Garden, Green Opportunities, and founder of Hood Hugger International, as well as a member of educational, environmental and social justice organizations.
Other exhibits in the gallery will be open for viewing, including “Mystical Photography” by Adam Lurie. Adam is called to capture amazing things happening in everyday objects, surfaces and spaces, often revealing extraordinary scenes, meaningful symbols and mystic visions.
For everyone’s continued safety, social distancing will be observed, with spaced browsing & outdoor refreshments. Please wear a mask.
