310 ART Anniversary Celebration

Ascent by Fleta Monaghan
Ascent by Fleta Monaghan

This year marks the 10th anniversary of 310 ART.

Located at Riverview Station in the River Arts District, the venture began in 2006 in one room, a 380 sq. ft. space that served as a classroom, a space to show original artwork by founder Fleta Monaghan and also a working studio daily.

Since then, the space has grown in size and evolved into a unique studio. Now five working artists have studio work space, the large gallery shows the work of 25 local fine artists and artisans and the original room is a dedicated classroom. In the current season the school offers courses taught by 9 local accomplished artists and 3 traveling artists who are published authors and nationally known instructors.

Monaghan says, “It is because of the community effort of the artists who show work and teach their specialties we have been able to grow even when the economy was challenging. Our participants have made fast lifetime friends and grown their skills in the fine arts. We have been able to reach out to many in our community and also serve participants who travel from all around the country to study with us. We now have an outreach scholarship program giving training to emerging college and university art majors who can get instruction in things not offered in their programs.

“We fund this through sales of our 310 garments and from generous donations. Our encaustic and cold wax program is the largest and most comprehensive in the region, and we teach all mediums and subjects in the fine arts with a focus on contemporary and cutting edge methods and mediums.”

310 ARTists gala party takes place Friday, April 29, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. There will be refreshments, lots of artists on hand, some demos and more. The studio is located at 191 Lyman Street, #310 (ground floor north) in Asheville’s River Arts District. For more details, call (828) 776-2716, email gallery@310art.com and visit www.310art.com.
