48 Days Film Project: 5 Continents

Five continents: North America, South America, Asia, Africa, and Europe, will come together through video conferencing to write, film, and edit a full length feature film in only 48 days.

The 48 Days Film Project is officially a subsidiary of the US production, 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP), which is a global short film competition. The 48 Days Film Project is in it’s third year, but this year is the first year a team will be comprised of five different continents.

All team leaders, directors, and producers are previous winners of the 48 Hour Film Project who have or will attend the International Film Festival Filmapaooza to represent their city.

On October 9, 2015 each team was given random elements that must be in the film, along with a chosen genre. Teams must work together to make a cohesive story, filmed in each continent, and then put all parts together to tell a wonderful story in a full length feature film.

History of the 48 Days Film Project

The 48 Days Film Project was devised and implemented for the first time in 2013 by Richard Schut, film producer and European city producer of the 48 Hours Film Project. The first two feature films were shot in several cities in Holland and were very successful at various film festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival. Each 48DFP has been screened at renowned film festivals including Filmapaooza and the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Winning films have the potential to be screened at Filmapaooza, an event where filmmakers, friends, and family from all over the world gather to screen feature films, short films, and other films.

City winners of the 48 Hour Film Project from all over the world will have their films screened in front of thousands of people to compete in for a chance to go to Cannes Film Festival.

An unofficial premiere of the 48 Days Film Project: 5 Continents, will be screened in each continent’s home state (dates and locations are still pending). The film also has potential of being offered to an official distribution company.
