Guido Frick is unabashed by the challenges of painting outdoors.
Frick claims the entire American West “as my own and personal studio.” With this much enthusiasm for the southwest, Frick had never managed to visit western North Carolina. In 2014, artist Jo Ridge Kelley invited him to lead a plein air paint workshop.
As a result, on Frick’s annual US trip to tour and teach, he readily agreed to revisit the mountains. He embraced the challenge of doing good art on the spot for art teaching in schools, and as a result is a featured artist, May 16, 2015, at QuickDraw.
In mid October 2014, they ventured throughout Western North Carolina and painted….Biltmore Estate, French Broad River Park, farmland in Bethel, and picturesque Lake Junaluska — incredible locations for the Plein Air Painting Workshop. Guido loved it so much and was so impressed by our gorgeous landscape and southern hospitality, that he welcomed the opportunity to return in May, 2015.
A three day workshop, May 13-15, 2015 is planned with a grand finale Quick Draw performance “painting live” as all of the participating artists race the clock, while art lovers watch and wait for their chance to bid during the live auction.
Kelley also painted with him in early 2014 along the Gulf Coast of Florida. He approaches the canvas with a definite design plan, sketching his chosen subject with brush in hand. He then applies a bold abstract pattern of colorful shapes, finishing up with just the right amount of detail to bring the subject alive…right before your eyes!
For many years Frick has shared the exciting techniques of the renowned Sergei Bongart, (whom he studied with for many years) and continues to pass on his legacy.
On May 16, 2015, during the fast paced QuickDraw hour, you will have a rare opportunity to meet and watch master painter Guido Frick, with the chance to score the original he creates!
