Jewels of the River Arts District

at The Wedge, 123 Roberts St., River Arts District,
Asheville, NC 22801
Coming to the Mark Bettis Studio & Gallery in The Wedge, 123 Roberts St., River Arts District, is an exhibit of uniquely designed jewelry by artist Vicki Rollo. Some of the jewelry will incorporate art created by River Arts District artists. An opening reception will be held from 5:30-7:30pm on Friday, October 21.
Intrigued by mixed-media, Rollo deftly combines man-made materials such as glass, raku and ceramic beads and pendants with semi-precious gemstones and earth stones including agates, jaspers, and jades. Natural elements from creatures in the ocean such as freshwater pearls, sea shells, coral and stones weathered by water and time are also parts of her creations. She incorporates a variety of shapes, colors and textures to communicate a unique artistic statement. Each piece is one of a kind wearable art.
Rollo delights in the ancient art form of beading. Beaded jewelry has been around since the days when early humans painted on cave walls. Ancient cultures used many of the same elements that Rollo uses today: stones, shells, seeds and bones.
The exhibit will feature jewelry designs utilizing beads and pendants by ceramic artists Kim Douglas and Blue Fire Macmahon, glass designs by Ethan Murray, raku landscapes by Katie Brown, porcelain art by Michael Hofman, Akira Satake and painted pendants by Mark Bettis – all artists in the River Arts District.
Rollo is a graduate of the Ringling College of Art and Design where she met Mark Bettis over 20 years ago. They have been collaborators on many creative projects during their friendship.
