‘BLINDSIDE’ leaves audiences in both awe and side-splitting laughter, Friday, November 2 at Diana Wortham Theatre

From ‘Fringe’ to the Mainstage, BLINDSIDE leaves audiences in both awe and side-splitting laughter, Friday, November 2 at 8pm at Diana Wortham Theatre

On Friday, November 2 at 8pm, the Diana Wortham Theatre proudly presents Stéphanie Morin-Robert’s BLINDSIDE, a multimedia production that’s both inspiring and hilarious — delighting audiences at festivals and solo shows around the globe.

A comic-but-serious multifaceted performance, BLINDSIDE was awarded Most Outstanding Production at London Fringe Festival and both Outstanding Original Work and Best of Fest at the Ottawa Fringe Festival. It sold out its run at the Edmonton Fringe Festival, as well as at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival — and it was an official selection at The Vault Festival in London.

In BLINDSIDE, a solo dance-storytelling-multimedia show, the artist explores her childhood as a feisty 7-year-old cancer survivor, wielding her glass eye as a superpower. A deeply personal account from her own life, Morin-Robert’s performance follows her struggle with both health and insecurities as a child — and, ultimately, she discovers that performance and creativity (and a bit of humor) went a long way in helping her cope and come to terms with her disability.

Though Morin-Robert has produced and performed multiple other shows through her company For Body And Light, BLINDSIDE has been a particularly life-changing experience for the artist, who uses her story to help facilitate understanding, empathy, vulnerability and trust — and to normalize conversations about disability, differences and other difficult subjects. Using humor, revealing personal details and building trust throughout her performance, Morin-Robert encourages and challenges audience members to move outside their comfort zones and talk frankly about subjects often considered taboo.

Morin-Robert is a Canadian interdisciplinary artist, producer and critic whose work is devoted to breaking boundaries. By colliding the world of contemporary performance with frank and authentic storytelling, she creates intelligent content while cultivating simplicity, accessibility and a direct relationship with the audience. With BLINDSIDE, Morin-Robert continues to be the spokesperson she needed as a little girl, assuring people that it’s alright to be different.
