Halloween Screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with Lip-syncing Student Shadow Cast

The WCU Bardo Arts Center presents a special Halloween screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on October 31st at 7:30 p.m. See this cult classic on the big screen in the Bardo Arts Center Performance Hall with a special WCU student shadow cast who invite audience interaction!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is probably the oddest, most off-the-wall cult film ever made; a kinky rock’n’roll science fiction horror satire that is everybody’s favorite Halloween show. A young couple stumbles into a castle inhabited by weirdos from the planet Transylvania including Dr. Frank N. Furter (Tim Curry) a transvestite Frankenstein in rhinestone heels. The on-stage WCU student shadow cast mirrors the on-screen performance, lip-syncs with the songs, and gives the audience actors to interact with, a much-desired part of any Rocky Horror experience.

The student shadow cast is made up of students from all across campus. For instance, Western Carolina University’s International Programs and Services department have four international students, one each from Jamaica, France, Spain, and Japan featured in The Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast. “As an international student, I never dreamt of being in an American Show. It’s the best way to meet people and practice my English. It’s not Broadway, but I’m proud to be in the Rocky Horror Family,” said Zoe Del Rio, an international student from France. Shadow Cast Student Director Casey Jowers, who also serves as the Bardo Arts Center Arts Ambassador, was extremely instrumental is casting a diverse group of students, “WCU is a growing, diverse community made up of many different backgrounds and ethnicities. The international program at WCU is full of opportunity and we wanted to showcase that in an exciting, innovative way. We wanted our cast to be as diverse as possible to show our support to the campus community and international programs.”

The screening and shadow cast production are again on Halloween Night, October 31, at 7:30 p.m. on the big screen in the Bardo Arts Center Performance Hall. Costumes are extremely welcome and goodie bags will be available to purchase at the door. Tickets are $5 for students, $10 for WCU faculty/staff and seniors 65+, and $15 for the general public. Please note that all seating is general admission. To purchase tickets or for more details, please visit arts.wcu.edu/rocky.
