will play the piano at the Canton branch on July 17. Both performances begin at 3:00 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

The sounds of the mountain dulcimer have echoed through our Southern Mountains for over 200 years, giving voice to the ballads, love songs, folk hymns and dance tunes that are a treasured part of our cultural heritage. On July 9, come enjoy a celebration of simpler times as Anne Lough brings to life some of these tunes and traditions. Learn about and experience the mountain dulcimer, an instrument originally unique to the southern mountains, in the hands of one our country’s finest and most respected traditional musicians. Originally from Virginia, Anne and her husband Rob have lived in Haywood County for 26 years, but her mastery of the autoharp, mountain and hammered dulcimer has brought her international acclaim as a performer and educator. Anne and Rob have been delighting audiences for over 40 years with their wide repertoire, beautiful harmonies and musicianship and have been regulars at numerous cultural events throughout the region.

July 17, we welcome back well-loved Friends of the Library Concert performer, keyboardist, and composer Richard Shulman, who creates music intended to be a positive influence for himself, audiences and society. The artist, who currently resides in Asheville, performs and records regionally and internationally. We are pleased to welcome him to Waynesville on February 20.
