Appalachian Pastel Society gives back to Western North Carolina arts community

Dream Big, an expressive arts experience inspired by French-Russian painter Marc Chagall, will be presented by Appalachian Pastel Society artists on Tuesday, July 23, at the Open Hearts Arts Center in Asheville. Pastelists Cathyann Burgess and Anne Allen of Hendersonville and Meryl Meyer of Asheville will lead the workshop.

Open Hearts Arts Center is a nationally accredited, community-based arts program, providing unique opportunities for differently abled adults to express themselves through the arts. Open Hearts Arts Center is the benefactor of the APS 2019 Non-Juried Pastel Show, October 3 through 30, at BlackBird Frame and Art, Asheville, NC.

“Growing the arts in the Appalachian region reflects the mission of APS members,” explains APS president, Gary Rupp of Black Mountain. Opportunities to exhibit paintings, attend live painting demonstrations and workshops, and participate in plein air outdoor retreats are benefits of membership in the non-profit arts organization. The organization, founded in 2006 to promote and understanding and appreciation of pastel painting, has 155 members from North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Georgia and other states.
