Queer Girls Literary Reading Series Celebrates its 10th Anniversary

On Sunday, September 23 at 6pm, The Mothlight will host the 10th Annual Queer Girls Literary Reading, a series started by Lori Horvitz, professor of English at UNC Asheville. For the first six years, the yearly event, a celebration of Asheville’s queer literary women—including women of varying ages, identities, races and abilities, took place in the library at the Phil Mechanic Studios in the River Arts District. Because of the growing interest and need for a larger venue, The Mothlight, at 701 Haywood Road in West Asheville, has graciously hosted the gathering since then.

For the last four years, Lockie Hunter, organizer of the Juniper Bends Reading Series, has joined Horvitz in organizing the event. This year’s lineup includes Indy Srinath, Sol Esperanza Roja, Maggie Anderson, Lockie Hunter, Lori Horvitz, Mandy Gardner and Carolyn Ogburn.

Admission to the event is by donation, with a $5 suggested donation (more if you can, less if you can’t).
