A selection of paintings and drawings by Nicholas M. Raynolds is now on display at the Reese Museum in Johnson City, Tennessee, from March 2-27. A reception will be held on March 12 from 5-7 pm and is open to the public.

This, the artist’s MFA thesis exhibition, examines several literary and invented narrative subjects influenced by science fiction, Surrealism, and the current political climate. In an attempt to reconcile the social and the personal through the creative impulse, Raynolds utilizes an amalgam of characters, tropes, and stories as metaphorical expressions of social psychosis and decay.
Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Raynolds currently resides in Asheville, North Carolina. He received his BFA from the Emily Carr University of Fine Art in Vancouver. He studied classical techniques at the independent school ‘Water Street Atelier’ in Brooklyn, NY, for three years. He has exhibited and taught nationally and abroad and is currently completing his Master of Fine Arts degree at Eastern Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.
