ART LEAGUE MEMBER ART EXHIBITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Members Anne Kramer and Jean Tuech Paintings Win at August Show

Hendersonville, NC – Art League of Henderson County members each month murmur complaints about how difficult it is to pick just one painting from so many excellent ones.  When the hard choices were made and the votes tallied at the August meeting, Anne Kramer’s striking small acrylic painting “Tranquility” featuring a single unopened trumpet flower was selected as Viewer’s Choice.  Long-time member Jean Tuech won Honorable Mention for her lovely watercolor painting “Skimmers and Friends.”  Both winning paintings will hang with the rest of the exhibit through September 9 along the main hallways at the Opportunity House, 1411 Asheville Hwy., and can be viewed during regular hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Also on exhibit in the main Grace Etheredge Gallery conference room of the Opportunity House are paintings by the League’s new members this year.

The Art League is one of the oldest established art organizations in North Carolina. Organized May 23, 1962, and incorporated as a tax-exempt, not-for-profit corporation in 1979, the purpose of the ALHC is the promotion, development, and enjoyment of the visual arts.  Membership is not restricted to Henderson County, either. All are welcome to join.  New members can join for a reduced fee of $25 for the remainder of the 2016 calendar year.  All of the member benefits and information can be found on the ALHC website www.artleague.org.

ALHC meets monthly on the second Sunday of each month (except May, when it will be the 3rd Sunday) at Opportunity House. A social hour usually begins around 1:30 p.m., with the meeting starting about 2 pm. An art-related presentation is usually offered following the meeting. The September meeting will be a joint meeting with the Appalachian Pastel Society.  Guests are welcome.
